Your mind is incredibly complex. There are two parts to it - the conscious and subconscious parts. The conscious mind is engaged when you're problem-solving, talking to another person, using logic to go about your day. It is also activated when you're learning a new skill, say - how to play the piano, drive a car, any new activity you're not familiar with. If you're a driver, take yourself now to the times when you were learning how to drive. Every action was conscious and you had to think about using the clutch, then changing gear, indicating, watching the road, steering etc. So many actions taken so quickly!!! You may have felt quite overwhelmed and scared at the time. Some people think they'll never be able to master the skill but in time and with consistent practice you start driving without constantly thinking what to do next. Everything comes easily and becomes a habit and you can start thinking of what to have for dinner, or are able to chat to your passenger whilst remaining focused on the road. Well, once a skill is mastered, it is pushed into the subconscious part of the mind where all the learnt skills are stored. Musicians are able to play the piano without even looking at the keys (something I can't do very well, arghh) because it is automatic after lots of practice.
Your subconscious mind is important in hypnosis and hypnotherapy. It stores all the memories, beliefs, things you have learnt, heard, seen from your birth. If there is a limiting belief that your parents/guardians have implanted in your mind when you were a child (e.g. 'you'll never amount to anything'), your subconscious mind will take it in literally, WITHOUT editing. The subconscious doesn't challenge or argue, it just takes things in (especially during most sensitive, informative years). This has a profound impact on your attitude towards yourself, others and your abilities. You may struggle in life because of this irrational belief that you're not even consciously aware of. You may struggle in your professional and/or private life, feel depressed, guilty, unworthy, engage in unhealthy behaviour because of this internal, unresolved, unchallenged belief.
So, how can hypnotherapy help? Hypnotherapy works on your subconscious to correct the irrational belief(s), resolve any issues and conflict. It turns off the conscious part which is logical, analysing and often stands in the way of a deep heeling transformation. Using the above example, to correct the limiting belief that a person 'will never amount to anything', the work could focus on bringing to attention - in trance - all the successes and achievements the person has had in life, the qualities they have, the contribution they bring etc. This change happens on a subconscious level and the subconscious mind, through repetition, will take it in WITHOUT editing.
RATIONAL EMOTIVE BEHAVIOUR THERAPY (REBT)
Hypnotherapy is not the only thing that is worth considering when dealing with a challenge. REBT (Rational Emotive Behaviour Therapy) is an active-directive, solution-oriented therapy, which fundamentals are the base for CBT (REBT is somewhat less known and there are differences between REBT and CBT).
The central premise of REBT is that it is our beliefs about a situation/person that cause us disturbance, not the situation/person itself. Have you ever found yourself and another person, say a friend or a family member, in an annoying or challenging situation and you both reacted differently to the same stimuli? One person might freeze and be unable to act and think, the other person however, accepts what's happened and is thinking of ways out. REBT delves deep into the belief system you might have about a particular event and looks at it from a logical point of view in order to make you challenge your own subconscious beliefs and remove the limitations that come with it, by adapting a more helpful, logical belief. It's not about delusion or avoidance, it is about healthy approach that builds your resilience, self-acceptance and teaches you how to cope better in the future.
Again, the subject of REBT, as the subject of Hypnosis, is so vast that if you would like more information please get in contact. Click below for how to contact me:

By working with your powerful subconscious part of the mind and at the same time challenging irrational beliefs on the conscious level, you are making powerful, lasting changes to the way you think, behave and feel. When you start thinking differently and being more positive, your behaviour and feelings have to change too. This is one of the most incredible journeys you can ever go on. Are you ready?
